Tongue Darting Opening To Recognition As An Olympic Sport

The President of the ITDA (International Tongue Darting Association), Douglas DuPre, was at the headquarters of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), together with the IOC heads of foreign relations, Susan Chaseman and Kenneth Powelstein. They met to discuss the possible Olympic recognition of the rapidly-increasing worldwide popularity of tongue darting. The high representatives of the IOC were pleased with the recognition of interest and paid tribute to the tongue darting athletes.

Observers of the IOC will be at the 2018 Tongue Darting World Championship in Croatia as an observer, after which they will submit proposals for possible recognition procedures. The road to recognition as an Olympic sport is possible over the next few years, according to Chaseman. Tokyo 2020 is a goal, but Summer Olympics in 2024 is certainly almost a definite. In addition, Chaseman met with Director General Christopher Evermore of SportAccord, the umbrella organization of world sports federations, who had invited Chaseman to participate in the International Sports Conference held after the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, another important step in the world sports community towards Olympic recognition.
